3 Getting started
This chapter describes how to get started with Insight software. It describes the steps to obtain the Insight
software distribution media and the installation documentation, describes the Insight software licensing
model, and describes how to redeem your license keys.
Step 1: Obtain the Insight software distribution media
The software products in the Insight software core family of products are distributed in a physical media kit
that contains:
• HP Insight Software DVD #1 contains the Insight software integrated installer as well as HP Systems
Insight Manager, HP Insight Control, and the HP Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager.
• HP Insight Software DVD #2 is used in conjunction with HP Insight Software DVD #1 and contains HP
Insight Dynamics and Insight Capacity Advisor Consolidation.
• The HP Insight Control server migration Boot CD is the boot CD for Insight Control Physical-to-ProLiant
or Virtual-to-ProLiant migrations.

• HP Insight Control for Microsoft System Center provides extensions to Insight Control to enable use in
Microsoft System Center environments.
• HP Insight Control for VMware vCenter Server provides extensions to Insight Control to enable integration
with VMware vCenter Server.
Step 2: Download and use the Insight software installation documentation
The Insight software installation documentation set is where you begin your user experience with the Insight
software family of products. The installation documentation provides an overview of Insight software products,
preinstallation data gathering that needs to be done, supported hardware and software configurations, and
step-by-step installation instructions.
