Dynamic workload movement with BladeSystem Matrix: Fluid movement between physical and virtual resources for flexibility and cost-effective recovery

Moving between blade types
Logical servers with target attributes provide the benefit of letting the logical server management
software potentially identify more possible targets when moving or activating a server.
As with all cross-technology logical servers, the administrator is responsible for ensuring appropriate
performance and functionality of the logical server on various platforms. In the event that a particular
target is proven to be unsuitable in the administrator‟s estimation, it is easy to manage the logical
server‟s target attributes, and remove the type of target to more accurately describe the logical
server‟s portability.

HP Insight Recovery (HP IR) is a component of HP ID that provides disaster recovery for logical
servers.
Setting failover target type preference
During failover, for every logical server on the primary site that has been configured with disaster
protection, HP IR activates a similarly configured logical server at the recovery site. For this purpose, it
interacts with Logical Server Management to determine a list of appropriate available targets, and
chooses the most suitable target to activate the logical server.
For a cross-technology Logical Server, the appropriate list of available targets may include both
physical servers and VM hosts. HP IR 6.2 introduces a new parameter „Target type preferred‟ in the
site configuration tab which allows the administrator to specify the type of target preferred for that
site.
