Dynamic workload movement with BladeSystem Matrix: Fluid movement between physical and virtual resources for flexibility and cost-effective recovery

Storage pool entries must be created within the same portability group in which logical server(s) that
will use the storage exist.
Moving between technologies
Activation and movement of cross-technology logical servers are affected in the same fashion as that
of standard logical servers. However, a new operation type of “Unlike Move” is now introduced.
This move type applies when an activate or move operation is about to be performed on a server with
a different underlying technology from the previous target host of the logical server.
Targets for logical servers are selected from the logical server‟s portability group. The portability
group‟s members are then further filtered based on resource availability, including CPU and memory
resources as well as network and SAN connectivity.
Note: of particular importance is that networks in Virtual Connect need to be named identically to
their corresponding networks (vSwitches) on the ESX hypervisors. Differences in names will not allow
ID to indentify networks with similar connectivity.
