Provide the portability group a name and optional description the name will be used when defining
logical servers. The set of Group Types is selected automatically based on the targets inserted into the
portability group. Valid combinations of targets include:
A single Virtual Connect Domain Group (VCDG)
A set of ESX Hypervisors
A set of Hyper-V Hypervisors
A set consisting of a single VCDG plus a set of ESX Hypervisors.
Defining Cross-technology Logical Servers
Defining a cross-technology logical server requires three things:
1. Placing the logical server into a user defined Portability Group consisting of unlike targets.
2. Specifying resources (Networks & Storage Volumes) common to potential targets
Placing a logical server within a portability group is accomplished on the logical server identity page.
This can be defined during the creation of the logical server or in a subsequent logical server modify.
The user selects from the Portability Group drop down list as shown. This list includes both the default
portability groups as well as any user defined portability groups.
The portability group for any logical server can easy be seen by clicking the “View Movable Logical
Server details” icon in Virtualization Manager as shown below.
The details for this Logical Server will then be displayed, as shown below.
