DESCRIPTION
wlitrace stores diagnostic messages generated by WLI kernel modules as they execute. Access to WLI
source code is necessary to interpret much of the information stored in these messages. This command is
intended for use by support personnel and requires superuser privilege.
The user controls the volume and detail of information logged by
wlitrace by setting levels for each
kernel module that generates trace data. There are two sources of level information that may be selected
to start a
wlitrace session:
The set of registered kernel module names and their trace levels are stored in kernel memory.
These in-memory trace levels retain their values across trace sessions, but not across system
reboot.
The WLI system configuration file wlisys.conf (4) can store the registered module names and
their trace levels as attributes. These attributes retain their values across system reboot.
The in-memory trace levels always reflect the current levels in an active trace session. If the
configuration file levels are selected for a trace session, the in-memory levels are set to the configuration
file levels. If the in-memory levels are selected for a trace session, the configuration file levels are not
affected.
The
wlitrace command is installed with the optional HP-UX Whitelisting (WLI) product.
Options
-b Begin a trace session. When a trace session is started, a header is written to the trace log
giving trace levels in effect and the start time.
A trace session can be initiated using module/level data from:
the system configuration file
in-memory values set previous to the current invocation
command-line values included with the current invocation
If neither
-c, nor -m and -l options are specified; a session startup defaults to using the
current in-memory levels.
The
-m and -l options must both be specified if either appears.
-c When used with the -b option, a trace session begins using the trace levels stored in the
system configuration file, wlisys.conf (4). The configuration file trace levels are set using
the -s option and the attributes modules={mlist} and levels={levlist}.
-e Stops the current trace session. A trailer message that includes the termination time is
written to the trace log.
-h Prints out usage information.
-i Prints out state information and values of wlitrace attributes stored in the system
configuration file wlisys.conf (4).
-l {levlist} A comma-separated list of levels that will be assigned to the list of kernel modules desig-
nated with the -m option. Valid levels that comprise {levlist } are returned with the -p
option.
The
-m option must be used with the -l option on the same command line.
