vparboot - boot a virtual partition

Remarks
This
vparboot describes functionality on systems with Onboard Administrator (OA) based partition
management. For vparboot on systems not running OA based partition management, refer to
vparboot1 (1M) by typing man vparboot1.
DESCRIPTION
The
vparboot command boots the specified virtual partition. The virtual partition must exist and be in
the DOWN run-state. The nPartition containing the virtual partition to be booted must either be booted in
vPars mode or inactive with the next boot mode as vPars.
Options and Arguments
vparboot recognizes the following command line options and arguments:
-p vpar_id Specifies the virtual partition to be booted. Required: The virtual partition must
exist and must be in the DOWN run-state. vpar_id can be specified either as a
number or name.
When invoked from the OS, the command boots the specified virtual partition of the
local nPartition.
When invoked from the OA, the vpar_id should be specified using the format
npar_id
:vpar_id or used along with -N option.
When specified in the npar_id
:vpar_id format, npar_id and vpar_id can either be a
number or name. The command boots the specified virtual partition of the specified
nPartition.
-N npar_id Specifies the nPartition to which the virtual partition belongs. npar_id can be
specified either as a number or a name.
You must specify the nPartition (npar_id ) when
vparboot is invoked from the OA.
SECURITY RESTRICTIONS
When invoked from the OS, this command is restricted to processes owned by superuser having appropri-
ate
parperm privilege. An OA user with operator privilege level or above can boot virtual partitions
from the OA.
RETURN VALUE
The
vparboot command exits with one of the following values:
0 Successful completion.
1 One or more error conditions occurred.
EXAMPLES
Boot the virtual partition called
Oslo:
vparboot -p Oslo
Boot the virtual partition Bergen specifying in nPartition Trondheim:
vparboot -p Bergen -N Trondheim
or
vparboot -p Trondheim:Bergen
