SRP_SYNC(1M) SRP_SYNC(1M)
NAME
srp_sync - completes the synchronization of containers after an update
SYNOPSIS
srp_sync -s depot_path [-c container_list]
srp_sync -h[elp] h ?
DESCRIPTION
The srp_sync command provides the ability to complete the synchronization of containers after an
update-ux has occurred in the global system. This command is invoked automatically after an update
triggered reboot to synchronize all affected containers with the required product and patch content
needed to keep the containers in sync with the global system. If this initial synchronization attempt fails,
use this command to complete the synchronization after the failure issues are resolved.
The automated synchronization is triggered by the /sbin/init.d/srp run level script. Any failures during
the update synchronization will be logged in /etc/rc.log. Refer to this log under ‘‘Updating SRPs and
Starting SRPs’’ for failure details and corrective suggestions.
A possible failure issue is that the required products and patches could not be swcopy’d to a local
software distributor depot. After providing a local depot, call srp_sync to synchronize the containers.
OPTIONS
-s depot_path
Specifies the absolute path to the software distributor depot to be used to complete the synchroniza-
tion. This option is required, but the validation of depot_path is container specific.
For system type containers, the depot path must be locally available on the system, such as a local
directory, a mounted
DVD, or a mounted NFS disk. The depot must contain the OE image, such as
those found on HP-UX 11iv3
OE DVDs, that was used to update the global system.
For system type containers, in the event of a failure in one or more containers, the automated syn-
chronization will retain the local depot and log the path. After validating the local depot and complet-
ing the synchronization, you must remove the local depot.
You can find other container type criteria (such as
HP9000 Containers) in the container specific docu-
ments and man pages delivered with that product.
-c container_list
Specify one or more containers that need to be synchronized. Each item in the list should be
separated by a space and the list should be enclosed in quotes. If a list is not supplied, the default is
to synchronize all unsynchronized containers.
-help, -h, -?
Provide help operation for the srp_sync command.
EXAMPLES
Synchronize all containers using a local software distributor depot:
# srp_sync -s /var/oe_depot
Synchronize a list of containers:
# srp_sync -s /var/oe_depot -c ‘‘container1 container2’’
RETURN VALUE
srp_sync exits with a return value of 0 on success and 1 on failure.
