NAME
resourcepath - description of the nPartition resource path format
DESCRIPTION
This manpage describes how the nPartition resource paths are constructed, the formats supported and
provides example resource paths.
This resource path format applies to the platforms where Onboard Administrator (OA) based partition
management is supported.
The numbers that form the resource path are taken from the silk-screen label or other label on/in the box
of the hardware, and are different from HP-UX hardware path enumeration.
The Resource Path describes physical hardware resources in a hierarchy of elements called "entity". Each
resource path consists of a hierarchical list of entity numbers. The hierarchy describes parent-child rela-
tionships. The parent is listed to the left of the child. Each entity number is relative to the parent. The
separator between the entity numbers is the slash (
/) character.
Three types of formats are supported:
Short Format:
The short format lists entity numbers separated by slash (
/).
For example, blade 4 in enclosure 2 is described as:
2/4
It is possible for different resources to have the same short format path. To avoid ambiguity, user
interfaces that support short format have mechanisms to uniquely identify each resource.
Medium Format:
The Medium Path comprises of a name which identifies the type of resource and the path in short
form. The name and path are separated by hyphen (-).
For example, blade 4 in enclosure 2 is described as:
blade-2/4
Long Format:
In the Long Path, each entity number in the short form is prefixed by a name that uniquely
identifies the type of resource.
For example, blade 4 in enclosure 2 is described as:
enclosure2/blade4
RESOURCES
Supported resource entities and their path format are as follows:
enclosure Specifies the compute or I/O expander enclosure.
Hierarchy:
enclosure#
Examples:
2
enclosure-2
enclosure2
blade Specifies the compute blade bay. This is an nPartition assignable resource.
Hierarchy:
enclosure#/blade#
Examples:
2/4
blade-2/4
enclosure2/blade4
iobay Specifies the I/O bay in I/O expander. This is an nPartition assignable resource.
Hierarchy:
enclosure#/iobay#
Examples:
5/1
