parremove(1M)
For OA Based Partition Management Systems
parremove(1M)
NAME
parremove - remove an existing nPartition
SYNOPSIS
parremove -p nPartition_id [
-Z][-F]
parremove -Z alt_parspec
Platform Support Remarks
This
parremove describes functionality on systems with Onboard Administrator (OA) based parti-
tion management. For parremove on systems not running OA based partition management,
refer to parremove1 (1M) by typing man parremove1
.
DESCRIPTION
The
parremove command removes an existing nPartition. This will unassign all blades and I/O bays
from the nPartition and destroy the partition. The target nPartition must be inactive and without any
defined virtual partitions except when the
-F option is used. By default, the current partition
specification (parspec) associated with the nPartition is not removed when the nPartition is removed. The
current parspec associated with the nPartition becomes an alternate parspec and can be reused later. If
-Z option is specified, the command removes the current parspec when the nPartition is removed.
In an nPartition with a virtual partition existing in it, the
parremove command will remove the nParti-
tion as well as all the virtual partitions that exist in the nPartition only when the -F option is specified.
If an alternate parspec is specified along with the
-Z option, the parremove command removes the
specified alternate parspec. The -Z alt_parspec and -p options are mutually exclusive.
Superuser permission is required to run this command from the partition side. When the command is
invoked from the Onboard Administrator (OA), it requires operator privilege level or above.
Please refer to the HP Superdome 2 Partitioning Administrator Guide for a description of the partition
management terms used in this man page.
Options and Arguments
parremove recognizes the following command line options and arguments:
-p nPartition_id Specifies the nPartition to be removed. nPartition_id can be specified either as a
number or a name.
Removes the current partition specification associated with the specified nPartition
when
-p option is used in conjunction with -Z option. Note that -Z
has to be used
without specifying the parspec name along with
-p to remove the current parspec.
Otherwise, the -p and -Z alt_parspec_name options are mutually exclusive.
-F Forcibly removes the nPartition. If you are removing an active nPartition, the
nPartition is marked for removal. This action is irreversible. The nPartition is not
actually removed until it is shut down. If the nPartition is running virtual parti-
tions, individual virtual partitions have to be shut down and the nPartition shut
down for the nPartition to be removed. The -F option is also required if the inactive
nPartition has virtual partitions defined independent of whether the nPartition is in
nPars or vPars mode.
-Z alt_parspec Specifies alternate partition specification to be removed. If the user tries to remove
a current partition specification, an error is returned.
Note: The
-Z alt_parspec and -p options are mutually exclusive.
RETURN VALUE
The
parremove command exits with one of the following values:
0 Successful completion.
1 Error condition occurred.
