parperm(1M)
For OA Based Partition Management Systems
parperm(1M)
NAME
parperm - give authorization to perform partition operations on other partitions
SYNOPSIS
parperm
parperm scope {ON|OFF} nParId[
:vParId]
Platform Support Remarks
parperm is only supported on systems with Onboard Administrator (OA) based partition manage-
ment, and is available only from the management processor (Onboard Administrator or OA).
DESCRIPTION
The
parperm command can be used to provide authorization to an operating system running in a parti-
tion to perform partition operations on other partitions. By default, a partition can only perform parti-
tion operations on itself. The commands to display partition status do not need any authorization and are
allowed from any partition.
parperm without any option will display information about any authorized partitions.
Any OA user having operator privilege level or above can execute this command.
Please refer to the HP Superdome 2 Partitioning Administrator Guide for a description of the partition
management terms used in this man page.
Options and Arguments
parperm recognizes the following command line options and arguments:
scope scope is either
npar or vpar (case-insensitive).
When the scope specified is
npar, the specified partition gets authorization to per-
form any nPartition operations within the complex. When the scope specified is
vpar, the specified partition gets authorization to perform virtual partition opera-
tions within the nPartition to which it belongs.
Note that
vpar scope is applicable only for a virtual partition. However for npar
scope, the specified partition can be either an nPartition or a virtual partition.
The
vpar scope is confined to the local nPartition. In other words,
vpar scope only
allows virtual partition operations within the nPartition containing the virtual par-
tition. It does not give permissions to allow virtual partition operations on other
nPartitions.
Note that when running as an nPartition, by default, the OS has permissions to do
virtual partition operations (for example, create virtual partition definitions) in the
local nPartition.
{
ON|OFF} The ON or OFF option indicates whether this nPartition or virtual partition should
be unauthorized or not.
nParId[
:vParId] The partition number that the OS is booted from. nParId can be the nPartition
number or name. Similarly, vParId can be the virtual partition number or name.
If the nPartition is running virtual partitions and the user does not specify a partic-
ular vParId, none of the virtual partitions is given authorization.
RETURN VALUE
The
parperm command exits with one of the following values:
0 Successful completion.
1 Error condition occurred.
EXAMPLES
1) Give authorization to an OS running in nPartition 1 to perform nPartition operations on nPartitions
other than nPartition 1.
parperm npar on 1
2) Give authorization to an OS running in a virtual partition 1 of nPartition 2 to perform nPartition
operations on nPartitions other than nPartition 2.
