-M type:max_value Specifies maximum number of blades or virtual partitions allowed in an nPartition.
The nPartition will not be allowed to have more than the max_value for the type
specified. The valid values for types are case-insensitive
blade and vpar.
By default, platform supported max values for blades per nPartition and virtual
partitions per nPartition are allowed. User specified value cannot be greater than
platform supported max values.
-N next_boot_mode Specifies whether the nPartition has to be booted as a single partition (nPars mode)
capable of running only a single operating system (OS) instance or as one or more
virtual partitions (vPars mode) as defined in the virtual partition database in the
partition specification, each capable of running its own OS instance.
The valid values for next_boot_mode are case-insensitive
nPars and vPars.By
default, an nPartition is booted in nPars mode.
If an active nPartition (
-p) is targeted by the parmodify operation, the current
partition specification is updated to reflect the mode set by this option and will take
into effect at the next nPartition reboot.
If a partition specification (
-Z
) is the target for the parmodify operation, when-
ever the target partition specification is used to boot an nPartition, it will be booted
as per the mode set by this option. By default, an nPartition is booted in nPars
mode.
On platforms that support OA-based partition management, virtual partitions can
be created from the OA also. Users can switch the nPartition to vPars mode and
poweron the nPartition before creating virtual partitions from the OA. This will
allow better resource validation checks for the virtual partition being created.
-O os_name Specifies the name of the operating system (OS) that will be booted by the user in
the nPartition after it has been created. This is used to determine the default
values for certain firmware settings and nPartition attributes.
The valid string for os_name is case-insensitive
HPUX_11iV3 (default). Please use
the pardefault (1M) command to see the default settings for each OS type.
Note: Booting a different OS than the one specified can result in the OS failing to
boot or in the OS not behaving properly once booted.
-P new_nPartition_name
Specifies a new name for the nPartition being modified, that is, after all
modifications are successfully applied to nPartition_id, it is renamed if no partition
with that name exists.
An nPartition name should at least have one of the following non-numeric character
a-z, A-Z, dash (
-), underscore (_), or period (.). No other non-numeric character is
allowed in an nPartition name. An nPartition name should not start with a dash
(-). An nPartition name with the same format as the default name can only be
specified if the specified name matches the nPartition number.
-T hyper_threading_flag
Specifies whether Hyper-Threading should be enabled or not. The valid values for
hyper_threading_flag are:
y enables Hyper-Threading, which allows multiple threads to run concurrently
on each processor. This is the default value.
n disables Hyper-Threading.
-V vga_flag Specifies whether VGA should be enabled or disabled in an nPartition. The valid
values for vga_flag are case-insensitive enable and disable. The default VGA
value will depend on the type of operating system specified by the user through -O
option. Depending on the platform and OS type, VGA may always be disabled when
running virtual partitions in an nPartition.
-X parspec :change_policy_flag
Specifies the partition specification (parspec) change policy. The valid values for
change_policy_flag are case-insensitive enable and disable.
The "parspec change policy" is an attribute of an nPartition which the user can
enable or disable. By default, it is enabled. The parspec change policy
