NAME
mca_recovery_on - enable/disable MCA Error Recovery
VALUES
Failsafe
0 (disable MCA Error Recovery)
Default
0 (disabled - on systems not supporting MCA Error Recovery)
1 (enabled - on systems supporting MCA Error Recovery)
Allowed values
Minimum:
0 (MCA Error Recovery disabled)
Maximum:
1 (MCA Error Recovery enabled)
DESCRIPTION
HP-UX supports MCA Error Recovery to ensure that certain Machine Check Aborts (MCA) caused by
transient errors do not crash the operating system.
The mca_recovery_on dynamic tunable is used to enable or disable the MCA Error Recovery func-
tionality. If disabled, an MCA will cause the system to initiate a crash dump and then a system reset
(normal legacy behavior). If enabled, certain MCAs caused by transient events will be recovered and sys-
tem execution resumed. The recovery action depends on the type of MCA and can include termination of
a user process.
Who Is Expected to Change This Tunable?
System administrators can change the value of
mca_recovery_on depending on the usage of the sys-
tem.
Restrictions on Changing
MCA Error Recovery is only supported on Dual-Core Intel Itanium 2 Processors 9100 Series and later.
On unsupported systems, MCA Error Recovery will be disabled by default and changing the
mca_recovery_on tunable will not be allowed.
WARNINGS
All HP-UX kernel tunable parameters are release specific. This parameter may be removed or have its
meaning changed in future releases of HP-UX.
Installation of optional kernel software, from HP or other vendors, may cause changes to tunable parame-
ter values. After installation, some tunable parameters may no longer be at the default or recommended
values. For information about the effects of installation on tunable values, consult the documentation for
the kernel software being installed. For information about optional kernel software that was factory
installed on your system, see HP-UX Release Notes at http://www.hp.com/go/hpux-core-docs
.
