NAME
lvmpud - LVM daemon handling online shared volume group reconfiguration and automatic increase of
pre-allocated extents for space efficient snapshots
SYNOPSIS
/usr/sbin/lvmpud
[-h | -? | -l | -d]
DESCRIPTION
lvmpud is the daemon that handles LVM online shared volume group reconfiguration and automatic
increase of pre-allocated extents for space efficient snapshots when threshold value is reached. Only
users with sufficient privileges can run this daemon. The online reconfiguration of shared volume groups
is available on volume groups version 2.1 and higher. Snapshot support for LVM is available on volume
groups version 2.2 and higher.
The
lvmpud daemon is automatically started when the system boots if
START_LVMPUD=1
is in the
/etc/rc.config.d/lvmconf
file. To manually start
lvmpud, have START_LVMPUD=1
in
/etc/rc.config.d/lvmconf
, then enter
/sbin/init.d/lvm start
. To manually stop
lvmpud, enter /sbin/init.d/lvm stop
. The default behavior is to start the
lvmpud daemon
when the system boots.
Only one instance of the
lvmpud daemon can run on a system. An attempt to start a second instance
would fail.
Options
The following options are supported:
-h,? Display the usage of lvmpud.
-l Log informational messages in the system log. See syslogd (1M).
-d Log debug messages in the system log. See syslogd(1M).
Shared Volume Group Considerations
Note that the
lvmpud daemon must be running on all the nodes sharing a volume group activated in
shared mode. LVM shared mode is currently only available in Serviceguard clusters.
Automatic Increase Of Pre-allocated Extents Considerations
Note that the
lvmpud daemon must be running for the automatic increase of pre-allocated extents to
succeed. Please refer to lvm(7) for more information.
