NAME
ipoib - Internet Protocol over InfiniBand (IPoIB)
DESCRIPTION
Internet Protocol over InfiniBand (IPoIB) allows IP applications to operate over InfiniBand (IB) networks.
The IPoIB driver makes available LAN interfaces (see lan(7)) for IB ports on the IB host channel
adapters (HCAs) installed on the system. IP addresses may be configured on these IPoIB lan interface(s)
using the
ifconfig command (see ifconfig(1M)), just like any other LAN interface.
The IPoIB driver implementation is based on the following IPoIB RFCs by the Internet Engineering Task
Force (IETF).
• RFC 4392: IPoIB Architecture
• RFC 4391: Transmission of IP over InfiniBand (IPoIB)
Commands
Starting with the HP-UX 11i Version 3 release, the new command line interface
nwmgr is introduced.
Please refer to nwmgr(1M) for overall details of the
nwmgr command, and refer to nwmgr_ipoib (1M) for
IPoIB specific
nwmgr command options and details.
IPoIB interfaces have a physical point of attachment (PPA) number, as displayed by lan commands, start-
ing with 9000. The IPoIB interface MAC address is 20 bytes long. However only the first few bytes are
displayed in the default
nwmgr command output. Use the following nwmgr command to display the com-
plete 20 byte MAC address of an IPoIB interface.
nwmgr -g -A mac -c lanipoib_instance
You can retrieve additional information regarding the IPoIB lan interfaces using the
nwmgr command.
Please refer to the nwmgr_ipoib (1M) manpage or use this command:
nwmgr -h -S ipoib [-v]
for help on the
nwmgr command options for IPoIB interfaces.
IPv4 or IPv6 addresses can be configured over IPoIB interfaces using the
ifconfig command (see
ifconfig(1M)).
You can also use
lanadmin command to retrieve additional information regarding the IPoIB lan inter-
faces. However, the use of lanadmin command is deprecated in favor of the new command line inter-
face nwmgr. To get help on various options available for lanadmin command, you can run:
lanadmin [-h|-H] 9000
The -h option displays brief help, while option -H displays verbose help.
Regular lan commands, namely lanadmin (1M), lanscan (1M), and linkloop (1M), are also supported over
the IPoIB lan interfaces. Starting with HP-UX 11i V3 HP recommends to use
nwmgr instead of the
lanadmin, linkloop,orlanscan commands.
For information on IB ports and HCAs, refer to nwmgr_rdma(1M) and itutil (1M).
WARNINGS
The
lanadmin, lanscan, and linkloop commands are deprecated. These commands will be removed
in a future HP-UX release. HP recommends the use of replacement command nwmgr to perform all net-
work interface-related tasks.
