TROUBLESHOOTING
Use the following quick steps to debug/triage HP 9000 Containers configuration, setup and runtime
issues.
Check container status:
$ srp -status <srp_name>
Check container startup logs:
$ more /var/hpsrp/<srp_name> /etc/rc.log
Validate container configuration:
$ srp -list <srp_name> -v
Check kernel tunable parameter values:
$ kctune base_pagesize (not greater than 4)
$ kctune process_id_max (not greater than 30000)
Some 32-bit applications may need a lower value for shmmax kernel tunable parameter:
$ kctune shmmax (not greater than 0x40000000)
To collect application system call trace logs, install the HP-UX system call tracer (
tusc
) on the host sys-
tem and copy the tusc binary into the container:
$ tusc -o <output file path> -lpfkev <executable> <arguments>
Disable ARIES optimizations by configuring the following in
/.ariesrc (32-bit) or /.aries64rc (64-
bit):
$ <executable path> -noopt
Re-configuring an HP 9000 Container:
$ srp -stop <srp_name>
$ srp -replace <srp_name>

tion.
SUPPORT AND LICENSING
HP 9000 Containers is available for download from HP Software Depot Home free of charge for HP-UX
11i v3 on HP Integrity servers.
Well behaved HP-UX 11i PA-RISC user space applications are supported. Versions of HP-UX prior to
HP-UX 11i v1 will not be supported (though such environments may work fine inside HP 9000 con-
tainers).
The HP 9000 HP-UX OE components emulated by HP ARIES within HP 9000 containers will follow the
support policies and schedule provided for the HP 9000 HP-UX OEs themselves.
It is the end users responsibility to ensure that all applications running within HP 9000 containers have
appropriate licenses. Users need to work with their individual software vendors to acquire new licenses
or transfer existing ones, as applicable.
Refer to the Support section on HP 9000 Containers web page for more detailed information on support
aspects related to HP 9000 Containers.
