transient files.
Setting up User Environment for Recovery on HP Integrity Servers
For HP 9000 system container model:
If
cpio, tar or fbackup was used to create the image, there is no need to set up any user
environment prior to recovery.
If any other tool was used for creating the image, refer to HP 9000 Containers Administrator´s
Guide for caveats and workarounds.
For HP 9000 classic container model:
Recover /etc directory under a temporary directory (
/tmp).
If trusted mode or shadow mode was being used on HP 9000 server, enable the same on the host
system.
Perform user and group migration.
$ /opt/HP9000-Containers/bin/hp9000_conf_users
<path to recovered /etc direc-
tory>
To use NIS, LDAP or other Active Directory tools, necessary setup needs to be done on the host HP-
UX 11i v3 system.
Creating Container Root Directory
Decide on a container name, which will also be the default host name for the container. HP-UX 11i v1
and prior environments do not support long node names, so choose a 8 character name.
Create the directory to be used as root for the HP 9000 file system.
The root directory could be a mount point but it cannot be a symbolic link or hard link.
For HP 9000 system containers, the root must be under
/var/hpsrp:
$ mkdir /var/hpsrp/<srp_name>
For HP 9000 classic container, HP 9000 root directory should be created under system root directory.
$ mkdir /hp9000-root
Set ownership (root:sys) and permissions (0755)on<root directory>.
Recovery Process Overview
Ensure that there is enough space to store the recovered HP 9000 files under <hp9000_root>.Provision
an additional 8 GB for internal use if library or command switch needs to be done in future.
If restoring from
Ignite-UX backup images, do not attempt to restore using Integrity Ignite-UX tools
itself.
Post Recovery Steps
For HP 9000 system containers, restore original user configuration on host, if it was modified for
recovery.
If
/tcb exists in HP 9000 image, convert from trusted to standard mode,
$ mkdir <hp9000_root>/usr/lib/hpux32
$ mount -F lofs -o ro /usr/lib/hpux32 <hp9000_root>/
usr/lib/hpux32
$ chroot
<hp9000_root>/usr/lbin/tsconvert -r
$ umount <hp9000_root>/usr/lib/hpux32
$ rmdir <hp9000_root>/usr/lib/hpux32
Refer to the Transitioning from HP 9000 server chapter in the HP 9000 Containers Administrator´s
Guide.
SETUP, CREATION AND CONFIGURATION OF HP 9000 CONTAINERS
Basic Operations with Container Creation
Before any container can be created, run:
$ srp_sys -setup
Enable PRM if the system will be used for hosting multiple containers with resource allocation per con-
tainer. Do not enable IPFilter as it has not been tested with HP 9000 Containers.
