LDAP-UX Client Services B.05.01 Administrator Guide for HP directory servers and Windows ADS
3.4.6.2.1 Remapping attributes for services
This section describes detailed procedures on how to perform attribute mappings for GECOS,
LDAP printer configurator, dynamic group, and X.500 group membership services.
Attribute mappings for GECOS
In a UNIX environment, the GECOS field of a user's password entry typically contains the user's
full name, telephone number, and building location. The RFC 2307 schema defines the gecos
attribute to contain these values. However, in a typical LDAP environment, cn (common name),
telephonenumber, l (location) are usually defined already and can be reused for the GECOS
information. The following is an example of how to remap the gecos attribute to these LDAP
attributes.
1. Enter yes for the following question:
Do you want to remap any of the standard RFC 2307 attributes? [yes]:
yes Enter
2. If you want to select the password service, then enter 1 for the following question:
Specify the service you want to map? [0]:1 Enter
3. Next, a screen displays the following information:
Current Passwd service attribute names:
1.uid -> [uid]
2.uidnumber -> [uidnumber]
3.gidnumber -> [gidnumber]
4.loginshell -> [loginshell]
5.userpassword -> [*NULL*]
6.homedirectory -> [homedirectory]
7.gecos -> [gecos]
You can map the gecos attribute to multiple attributes
names by separating each by a space,
(for example: gecos -> gecos cn uid)
Enter 7 for the following question:
Specify the attribute you want to map. [0]:7 Enter
4. Next, a screen displays the following request. Enter the LDAP attributes at the [gecos] prompt,
as shown
Type the name of the attribute gecos should be mapped to.
[gecos]: cn telephonenumber l
5. Next, a screen displays the following information:
Current Passwd service attribute names:
1.uid -> [uid]
2.uidnumber -> [uidnumber]
3.gidnumber -> [gidnumber]
4.loginshell -> [loginshell]
5.userpassword -> [*NULL*]
6.homedirectory -> [homedirectory]
7.gecos -> [cn telephonenumber l]
You can map the gecos attribute to multiple attributes
names by separating each by a space,
(for example: gecos -> gecos cn uid)
Type 0 to exit this menu and return to the previous level, or
