Concurrent Mark-Sweep GC (widely referred to as CMS). G1 runs largely concurrently
with your application, but with short pauses that are more predictable than those
required by CMS. Unlike CMS, G1 also performs heap compaction to reduce
fragmentation. You can enable this experimental version of G1 with the XX:+UseG1GC

Please note that although this Oracle site states that
-XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions is needed with -XX:+UseG1GC, that is no
longer the case for 6.0.08 and later. However, the Garbage-First Garbage Collector is
still considered to be experimental for this release.

The jmap, jinfo, and jstack tools are shipped with the JDK, starting with release
6.0.03. For usage information, use:
# <tool> -help
