Introducing HP-UX Mobile IPv6

3. Conclusion
The surging demand for mobile computing and “Always-on” network connections is undeniable. From
mobile enterprise workforces, to WLANs on Corporate and University campuses, mobility is no longer
a distant fantasy. Deployment numbers are rapidly growing, and are expected to grow even faster in
the coming years. However, the reality of accommodating such demands present several dilemmas,
including:
the availability of IP addresses
the complexity of current network technologies due to workarounds such as NAT and link-layer hand-
over mechanisms
the need to access the network in multi-access environments
HP-UX Mobile IPv6 is the answer to today’s—and tomorrow’s—mobility demands and dilemmas. This
free-of-charge and IETF standards-based solution handles mobility management at the IP layer—the
only common layer for applications in IP networks—and therefore mobility is transparent to the layers
above the IP layer. Additionally, HP-UX Mobile IPv6 represents a secured, tested, and interoperable
solution that capitalizes on IPv6 mechanisms and the lessons from Mobile IPv4.
