The Router Advertisement Daemon: rtradvd
The Router Advertisement Daemon, rtradvd, performs the following Mobility functions on HP-UX IPv6
systems:
• configures the system as a Home Agent
• receives Router Solicitation messages from Mobile Nodes
• sends Router Advertisement messages Mobile Nodes use for detecting movement and configuring Care-of
Addresses
NOTE The HP-UX IPv6 rtrdvd is included with the IPv6 component of TOUR 2.0.
The rtradvd and mip6mod must be running on Home Agents. The rtradvd configures Home Agent prefix lists
in mip6mod and sends information to Mobile Nodes for Dynamic Home Agent Address Discovery. The rtradvd
processes and generates the following list of ICMPv6 messages, which are the only Mobile IPv6 messages
mip6mod is not responsible for handling:
• Mobile Prefix Solicitations
• Mobile Prefix Advertisements
• Dynamic Home Agent Address Discovery Requests
• Dynamic Home Agent Address Discovery Replies
