Verifying Reverse-Tunneling Between Mobile Nodes and Home Agents
Use the following procedure to verify the reverse-tunneling procedure between a Home Agent and Mobile
Node.
Step 1. Attach a Mobile Node to a foreign network.
Step 2. Allow the Mobile Node to send a Binding Update message to the Home Agent and register from the
foreign network.
Step 3. Use a Correspondent Node to ping the Mobile Node and generate traffic after the Mobile Node
sends the Binding Update to the Home Agent.
NOTE Be sure the Correspondent Node is not running Mobile IPv6. If the Correspondent
Node is running Mobile IPv6, Route Optimization might be used and the Mobile
Node might send the data-packets directly to the Correspondent Node.
Step 4. Use the nettl tool on the Home Agent to verify the data-packets sent to the Mobile Node from the
Correspondent Node are reverse-tunneled through the Home Agent.
