Installation Summary
The sections that follow provide step-by-step instructions for updating to
or cold-installing HIDS Release 4.0. This section provides a summary of
the tasks.
In addition to these Release Notes, you will need the Host Intrusion
Detection System Administrator’s Guide Software Release 4.0, for
information on configuration and initial startup.
Step 1. Ensure that your administration and agent systems meet the
requirements as described in “Hardware and Software
Requirements” on page 27.
Step 2. If you are currently using release 2.x, follow the instructions in “When
Updating from Release 2.x” on page 29.
Step 3. Perform the preinstallation tasks described in “Preinstallation” on
page 30.
Step 4. Create software depots for the administration system and the agent
systems, as described in “Making Depots” on page 31.
Step 5. Install the software on your administration and agent systems, as
described in “Installing the Depots” on page 42.
Step 6. Perform the postinstallation tasks described in “Postinstallation” on
page 45.
Step 7. Create secure communication certificates and perform other
configuration tasks, as outlined in “Configuration” on page 46.
