HP-UX HIDS Release 3.1 software is compatible with Release 3.0 and is not backward
compatible with Release 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 (collectively referred to as 2.x henceforth) and 1.0.
Specifically, HIDS Release 3.1 agents and GUI cannot communicate with 2.x and 1.0 agents
and GUI. This means that 2.x and 1.0 agents cannot be managed by the 3.1 system manager
GUI, and vice versa. Release 2.x communication keys and certificates are recognized and valid
in Release 3.1 and you do not need to generate keys and certificates after migrating to Release
3.1.
The templates in Release 3.1 differ significantly from those in 2.x. In order to use existing 2.x
schedules, you must use the guiSchedConvert migration tool (see “The guiSchedConvert
Migration Tool” on page 42) to convert schedule files used by the System Manager and the
adminSchedConvert migration tool (see “The adminSchedConvert Migration Tool” on
page 43) to convert text schedule files used by the idsadmin command.
HP recommends that you upgrade all systems to Release 3.1.
NOTE You cannot directly migrate HP-UX HIDS Release 1.0 schedules to HP-UX
HIDS Release 3.1 schedules. You must first migrate to HP-UX HIDS Release
2.2 schedules and then migrate to HP-UX HIDS Release 3.1 schedules.
