Installation Summary
IMPORTANT Read this entire chapter before installing, or updating to, HP-UX HIDS, release
3.0.
The sections that follow provide step-by-step instructions for updating to or
cold-installing HP-UX HIDS release 3.0. This section provides a summary of the tasks.
In addition to these Release Notes, you will need the HP-UX Host Intrusion Detection
System Administrator’s Guide Software Release 3.0 for information on configuration and
initial startup.
Step 1. Ensure that your administration and agent systems meet the requirements as described
in “Hardware and Software Requirements” on page 17.
Step 2. If you are currently using release 2.x, follow the instructions in “When Updating from
Release 2.x” on page 18.
Step 3. Perform the pre-installation tasks described in “Pre-Installation” on page 19.
Step 4. Create software depots for the administration system and the agent systems, as
described in “Making Depots” on page 20.
Step 5. Install the software on your administration and agent systems, as described in
“Installing the Depots” on page 28.
Step 6. Perform the post-installation tasks described in “Post-Installation” on page 30.
Step 7. Create secure communication certificates and perform other configuration tasks, as
outlined in “Configuration” on page 32.
Step 8. If you are updating from release 1.0, you must first update to version 2.2 and then follow
the instructions in “Updating from Release 2.x” on page 30.
