Encrypted Volume and File System v1.1.2 Release Notes
Ignite-UX will read these files in cleartext. If the output media is not an EVFS volume, such
as a tape, Ignite-UX will store these files in cleartext.
• Executing the command vxresize with the -F option can cause lost or corrupt data. For
more information and a workaround, see “vxresize -F Can Cause Data Loss or Corruption”
(page 11).
• Renaming VxVM volumes with EVFS enabled makes the volume unusable. For more
information and a workaround, see “Renaming VxVM Volumes with EVFS Enabled Makes
the Volume Unusable” (page 12).
• EVFS is not supported by SAM or SMH.
• The evfsadm trace command is intended for use by support personnel only. HP does
not support this feature on customer environments.
• During inline encryption, the volume is not accessible until the entire operation is completed.
• The Multi Volume File System feature of Veritas, which is not supported by EVFS.
• EVFS is currently available in English only.
• Keys limit: 4096 per key type for private, public, and AES keys.
• Volume limit: 1023 encrypted volumes per system.
• ServiceGuard version A.11.18 or later using modular packages supports EVFS volumes
without a file system.
• EVFS is not supported with ServiceGuard/SGeRAC shared activation.
• The following features on ServiceGuard version A.11.19 are not supported by EVFS:
— Online package configuration
— Partial-startup maintenance mode
• When a device is used for EVFS, writing to a non-EVFS device (for example,
/dev/vg00/lvol1) instead of the EVFS device (for example, /dev/evfs/vg00/lvol1)
will cause data corruption.
• Because of the computing intensive nature of the encryption algorithms, HP recommends
at least one additional CPU when using EVFS software.
1.5 Enhancements
HP-UX EVFS v1.1.2 provides the following enhancements:
• Defect number: QXCR1000934023
Supports LVM and VxVM volumes greater than 2 TB.
For the LVM and VxVM products, refer to their respective release notes for more information
on the required patches to support volumes greater than 2 TB:
http://www.docs.hp.com/
• Defect number: QXCR1000943296
Validates the EVFS entry in the /etc/inittab file during swverify.
• Defect number: QXCR1000938048
Supports EVFS volumes that do not have a file system on ServiceGuard. A new EVFS attribute
evfs_raw_vol has been added and ServiceGuard version A.11.18 or above is required.
Use the new EVFS attribute as follows:
# evfs_raw_vol /dev/evfs/vg01/vol1
1.6 Defects Fixed
HP-UX EVFS v1.1.2 provides the following fixes:
