Migration (Upgrade) from Netscape or Red Hat Directory Server to HP-UX Directory Server 8.10.05 (5900-3099, May 2013)
Introduction
This whitepaper describes how to migrate or upgrade to HP-UX Directory Server 8.10.05 from
Netscape Directory Server 6.11 or 6.21, Red Hat Directory Server 7.1 or 8.0, or HP-UX directory
Server 8.1.
Migrating or Upgrading from Netscape or Red Hat
Directory Server to HP-UX Directory Server 8.10.05
The migration to HP-UX Directory Server 8.10.05 from Netscape Directory Server 6.x, or from Red
Hat Directory Server 7.x or 8.0 is a two-step process as follows:
1. Migrate or upgrade to HP-UX Directory Server 8.10.03 or earlier versions (8.10.01 or
8.10.02) from Netscape Directory Server 6.x, or Red Hat Directory Server 7.x or 8.0
versions respectively. For more information, see HP-UX Directory Server installation guide (HP-
UX Directory Server Version 8.1) available at http://www.hp.com/go/hpux-security-docs -->
HP-UX Directory Server.
2. Upgrade from HP-UX Directory Server 8.10.03 or earlier versions to HP-UX Directory Server
8.10.05. For more information, see Upgrading from HP-UX Directory Server 8.10.X.
Upgrading from HP-UX Directory Server 8.10.X
Upgrading from HP-UX Directory Server 8.10.X:
replaces all product files that belongs to the older version with 8.10.05 version files.
removes files belonging to the older version that are not used by the new version.
upgrades some of the configuration data to function correctly with the new version.
Backing up the Directory Server data and configuration
HP recommends you to take a backup of HP-UX Directory Server 8.10.x configuration and data
before performing an upgrade to HP-UX Directory Server 8.10.05. If there are any issues during an
upgrade, the backup ensures that you can recover by reverting to the 8.10.x version. To backup the
directory server data and configuration, follow these steps:
1. Archive the contents of the /etc/opt/dirsrv directory, to back up the configuration from
the 8.10.x installation. For example:
# /opt/dirsrv/slapd-instance_name/stop-slapd
# cd /etc/opt/dirsrv
# tar -cvf /home/files/hpds8103cfg.tar *
2. Run the db2bak command once for each directory server instance, to back up the data from
the 8.10.x installation. For example:
# /opt/dirsrv/slapd-instance_name/db2bak \
/home/files/bak/slapd-instance_name
