Conﬁguring Cells with DCM

Requirements for Running DCM

If you choose to conﬁgure your cell with DCM, you should verify that the systems in your cell meet the

following requirements:

• All systems from which you want to perform cell conﬁguration tasks must have SAM installed.

• All systems must have the host name of each node (the administrative node and cell members) in their

.rhosts and /etc/hosts.equiv ﬁles. The .rhosts ﬁle must be located in the root user's home directory,

usually the / directory. For more information about .rhosts ﬁles, see

• All systems that you want to administer via DCM must be running HP-UX DCE Version 1.2, 1.2.1, 1.3.1,

1.4, 1.4.1, 1.4.2, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, or 1.9. DCM does not conﬁgure and may not "discover" all aspects of other

vendors' system conﬁguration.

Running DCM

To run DCM:

1. Log in as root.

2. Execute sam from a shell prompt.

3. Select (double click on) DCE Cell Management.

4. Select (double click on) DCE Conﬁguration Manager.

In a conﬁgured and running cell, if the primary DCE services (Initial CDS and Master Security) are

running on HP systems (as opposed to other vendors' systems), you can conﬁgure additional HP-UX DCE

1.2, 1.2.1, 1.3.1, 1.4, 1.4.1, 1.4.2, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, or 1.9 clients into the cell from any HP-UX DCE 1.9 cell

member system.

Consult the online help for details about using DCM; detailed information about DCM is

not

provided here or

in a separate manual.

NOTE The DCM online help assumes a basic familiarity with DCE terms and concepts, as described

in the manual

Introduction to DCE

Accessing Online Help for DCM

Following are the steps to access the online help for DCM:

1. Select (single click on) the DCE Conﬁguration Manager icon in SAM.

2. Press F1.

For information about using the SAM online help system, use the Help pull-down menu on the SAM screen.

Printing the DCM Online Help

You can print the DCM online help from CDE. The help, however, is not formatted as it is on the screen: only

text is printed (graphics are not printed).
