Initial Cell Conﬁguration

NOTE As of HP DCE 1.6, dce_conﬁg sets the DCEAUDITFILTERON

environment variable to enable audit ﬁltering, which limits the range of

audit event types logged. It you want to disable or change the default

settings provided by dce_conﬁg, you must do so before starting any

server that provides data to the Audit Service. See “Conﬁguring the DCE

Audit Service” in this chapter and “The DCE Audit Service” in

Chapter 1.

NOTE HP DCE 1.6 and 1.7 do not support DFS. Therefore, you can ignore

references to DFS that still appear in conﬁguration menus. If you choose

DFS Client from the DCE Conﬁguration Menu, for example, a message

displays that the bits are not loaded.

When creating an HP DCE cell, servers must be conﬁgured before

clients. First conﬁgure a Security server, then a CDS server, a Time

server, and ﬁnally a single Time provider. Then you may conﬁgure

clients.

When planning a DCE cell, note that you must conﬁgure a CDS client on

any Security server system that is not running a CDS server. You must

also conﬁgure a Time client on any system that is not running a Time

server. Be sure to conﬁgure these clients only after you have conﬁgured

all servers.
