In This Version

HP-UX DCE Version 1.9 provides the features of OSF DCE 1.2.1, along with HP value-added features and

bug ﬁxes.

HP-UX DCE Version 1.9 Overview

HP-UX DCE Version 1.9 server makes the functionality of Open Software Foundation (OSF) DCE 1.2.1

available on HP systems running HP-UX 11i v2. HP-UX DCE 1.9 also includes HP value-added tools. HP-UX

DCE 1.9 provides the functionality of HP-UX DCE 1.4.1, 1.5, 1.6, and 1.7, along with new features and bug

ﬁxes.

HP-UX DCE client software is bundled with the HP-UX operating system; other DCE software is distributed

as layered software.

The following products are available on HP-UX 11i v2 through the Application Release CDs:

• CDS Services: DCE- CDS- Server

• Security Server: DCE-SEC-Server

• DCE Administration Tools-DCE- Core Admin

• Application Development Tools-DCE-C-Tools

This release note describes HP-UX DCE 1.9 for the HP-UX 11i v2 operating system. For information about

HP-UX DCE Features

HP-UX DCE provides two types of features:

• Primary features

• Value-added features

The primary features of HP-UX DCE include:

• All of the functionality of OSF DCE 1.2.1, except for Global Directory Service (GDS), Concert Multi

Thread Architecture (CMA) threading, tracing facility, Distributed File Service (DFS) and the DFS

extended ﬁle services.

• OSF DCE features supported by HP-UX DCE 1.9 include Remote Procedure Call (RPC), Security, Cell

Directory Service (CDS), Distributed Time Service (DTS), and Kernel threads

The value-added features of HP-UX DCE include:

• A modiﬁed Interface Deﬁnition Language (I2DL) compiler, enhanced CDS browser, and sample

applications.

• HP value-added tools, such as DCE Account Manager and HP-UX DCE Conﬁguration Manager, that

make conﬁguration and administration easy.
