HP CIFS Server 3.0f Release Notes version A.02.03

Announcement
HP CIFS provides HP-UX with a distributed file system based on the Microsoft Common Internet File
System (CIFS) protocols. This document contains information about some enhancements and defect fixes
provided in the A.02.03 release of the HP CIFS Server, as well as other helpful information. HP CIFS Server
A.02.03 is supported on HP-UX release 11i v1 and v2. The following list is a summary of the changes
included in this release.
Summary of changes in HP-UX CIFS Server A.02.03
This version of HP CIFS Server software is based on Samba 3.0.22 with 3.0.23 selected fixes. It is a
feature release that delivers fixes and new functionality from the new Samba base version while
maintaining all previously supported HP specific fixes and enhancements.
HP CIFS Server A.02.03 winbind code has been re-designed to support the non-blocking,
asynchronous request/reply behavior with the exception of user and group enumeration. With this
new enhancement, winbind provides better scalability in large domain environments and on high
latency networks.
As part of the re-design, winbindd now spawns a winbindd process for the workgroup and each
trusted domain. This means administrators should expect to see an increased number of winbindd
processes running when running in complicated ADS environments
This release supports performance enhancements which include enabling the configuration parameter
"use mmap" to take advantage of fixed size memory map access of CIFS's Trivial Database (TDB)
files. The mechanism and number of TDB files using memory-mapped access has been tuned respective
of the OS (HP-UX 11i v1 and v2 PA or 11i v2 IA).
For detailed information, refer to the "TDB Memory Map for HP CIFS Server" section of Chapter 12
in the HP CIFS Server A.02.03 Administrator's Guide or man smb.conf.
Support for configuration parameter changes in the smb.conf file.
A new option Bad Uid has been added to the map to guest parameter in the smb.conf file. This
option means that user logins that do not have a UNIX user ID for the domain user will be mapped
to a predefined guest account
There are new parameters, changed parameters and removed parameters in smb.conf for HP CIFS
Server A.02.03. See the section “Configuration Parameter Changes” (page 10) for details.
This version of the HP CIFS Server addresses problems resolved since version A.02.02.01. Please refer
to the section “New Fixes in HP CIFS Server A.02.03 (page 11) for details.
WARNING! HP only supports HP CIFS Server binaries as delivered by HP. You must use the swinstall
utility to formally install versions of CIFS Server, and you must not copy CIFS Server binaries of different
revisions between systems.
Product Revision Number
New versions of the HP CIFS Server are identified by the product revision number (A.xx.xx.FF), and are

Feature releases include new functionality and/or new Samba source version. The base product revision
number (A.xx.xx) is incremented; a fix suffix number is not used.
