HP CIFS Server Release Note Announcement 1 HP CIFS Server Release Note Announcement This document contains information about some minor enhancements and defect fixes provided in the A.02.02.01 release of the HP CIFS Server, as well as other helpful information. HP CIFS Server A.02.02.01 is supported on HP-UX release 11i v1 and v2. The following list is a summary of the changes included in this release. Common Internet File System (CIFS) Server A.02.02.01 • HP CIFS Server A.02.02.01 is based on Samba 3.

HP CIFS Server Release Note New and Changed Features in Version A.02.02.01 New and Changed Features in Version A.02.02.01 This release contains the following enhancements and changes: smbmonitor.pl Script Intended for use outside the ServiceGuard environment, smbmonitor.pl is a perl script which has been provided to enable automatic checks of the running state of CIFS Server daemons.
HP CIFS Server Release Note New Fixes in HP CIFS Server A.02.02.01 New Fixes in HP CIFS Server A.02.02.01 HP CIFS Server A.02.02.01 provides the following defect fixes: • It can appear as if a non-owner user can delete a .file when setting "hide dot files" to yes (CR JAGaf84519) This fix resolves a problem where it appears as if a non-owner user with only read permissions can delete a hidden file on an HP CIFS share. The file does not actually get deleted.
HP CIFS Server Release Note New Fixes in HP CIFS Server A.02.02.01 The changes have been made in the HP CIFS Server code to initialize the "kernel oplocks" smb.conf parameter properly and and turn it off by default since HP-UX does not support kernel oplocks. The problem in conjunction with CR JAGaf87049 leads to a server crash. • A user cannot rename or delete files when using "force group" in smb.
HP CIFS Server Release Note New Fixes in HP CIFS Server A.02.02.01 hide files in smb.conf The hide files = filename parameter specifies a list of files or directories that are not visible but are accessible. Each entry in the list must be separated and ended by a "/". "*" and "?" can be used to specify multiple files or directories as in DOS wildcards. Each entry must be a UNIX path. The default setting is # which means no file is hidden.

HP CIFS Server Release Note Known Problems and Workarounds Known Problems and Workarounds For HP CIFS Server A.02.02.01 The following is a list of known problems and, where possible, the appropriate workarounds for the HP CIFS Server A.02.02.01: Problem Share mode security does not work with POSIX ACLs. Workaround Microsoft servers do not support share mode security and Windows NT ACLs. No workaround currently exists. Problem CIFS clients cannot delete open files.
HP CIFS Server Release Note Known Problems and Workarounds Workaround Access the file directly from the Windows client instead of through Windows Terminal Services. Problem Creation of symlinks using UNIX extension fails if a full path is used to specify the symlink. Workaround Change to the directory where the symlink will reside and create the link using relative path. Problem Once the wins server option is set in the smb.conf file, it cannot be cleared using SWAT utility Workaround Edit the smb.
HP CIFS Server Release Note Known Problems and Workarounds Problem Changing the password stored in the smbpasswd file from a Windows XP machine without the sign and seal patch will fail and corrupt the password for the user.The password must then be reset by the administrator if this occurs.
