HP CIFS Server Release Note
Updating HP CIFS Server A.01.* to A.02.01 or later
Chapter 1 15
Updating HP CIFS Server A.01.* to A.02.01 or
later
The installation and configuration procedures in Chapter 2, "Installing
and Configuring the HP CIFS Server" of HP CIFS Server A.02.01
Administrator’s Guide apply to HP CIFS Server A.02.* versions and to
A.01.* versions. However, you must consider the following additional
concerns and apply these procedures when updating from an A.01.*
version to an A.02.* version of HP CIFS Server:
HP CIFS Server A.02.* versions do not provide a downgrade path to
A.01.* versions. Therefore, it is especially important to follow the
backup procedure described in “Step 1: Installing HP CIFS Server
Software” of Chapter 2, Installing and Configuring HP CIFS Server
in HP CIFS Server A.02.01 Administrator’s Guide.
Determine your server deployment model.
Remember that an HP CIFS Server A.02.* cannot be a member
server to an HP CIFS Server A.01.* version PDC domain. HP CIFS
Server A.01.* member servers can successfully join to an HP CIFS
Serer A.02.* PDC domain. For more information on HP CIFS
deployment domain models, see Chapter 11, “HP CIFS Deployment
Models” in the HP CIFS Server A.02.01 Administrator’s Guide.
Determine your target authentication backend.
The authentication backend you choose affects your deployment
model and your update procedures. Understand the authentication
alternatives before proceeding to update. Consult the Samba books,
The Official Samba HOWTO and Reference Guide and Samba 3 by
Example, provided by HP CIFS Server.
HP CIFS Server A.02.* authentication backends consist of the
following:
smbpasswd: Flat file format that is compatible with A.01.*
versions. It is the default configuration.
tdbsam: Attribute rich database intended as an smbpasswd
replacement for standalone servers.
