HP CIFS Server A.02.* Added Features
Beginning with HP CIFS Server version A.02.01, many new features are
available for use. The following describes these new features:
• Active Directory Server support
HP CIFS Server can join an ADS realm as a member server and
authenticate users using LDAP with Kerberos security. See
Chapter 7, “Active Directory Service Member Server Support,” on
page 107 before joining a Windows 200x domain.
• New authentication system
In addition to continued support for smbpasswd and LDAP
authentication backends, HP CIFS Server includes support of new
account storage databases, ldapsam and tdbsam. Because it is one
of the most important new features, you must understand the use of
the new authentication system before updating. For more
information on how to configure the passdb backend parameter,
refer to the books previously described and to the SWAT help text, or
run the man smb.conf comand. See “Updating HP CIFS Server
A.01.* to A.02.*” on page 183 later in this chapter before updating
from an A.01.* version to an A.02.* HP CIFS Server version.
• Winbind
Winbind can dynamically assign UNIX users and groups
(UIDs/GIDs) to Windows users and groups to facilitate integration in
Windows-based domains.
• More account management tools
You can use utilities including pdbedit, net commands, smbldap
tools and smbpasswd to manage user account information. The net
commands provide numerous new utility operations and replace
others.
For details about many other new features, see
/opt/samba/SAMBA_WHATSNEW.txt.
