HP CIFS Server Release Note Announcement 1 HP CIFS Server Release Note Announcement This document contains information about minor enhancements and bug fixes provided in HP CIFS Server A.01.11.05, as well as other helpful information. The following list highlights the main changes. Common Internet File System (CIFS) Server A.01.11.05 NOTE • This version of the HP CIFS Server is a fix release based on Samba 2.2.12. • Changes have been made to support the disk quotas configuration parameter.

With this fix, the volume string specified by the volume option in smb.conf can be correctly presented on Windows side.
HP CIFS Server Release Note Features and Fixes in Recent Releases Features and Fixes in Recent Releases Fixes in HP CIFS Server A.01.11.04 HP CIFS Server A.01.11.04 provides the following fixes: • Potential Integer Overflow Vulnerability SSRT4885 (CR JAGaf50678) A security vulnerability, CAN-2004-1154, has been found in the MS RPC unmarshalling code of HP CIFS Server. This problem could potentially be exploited to gain root access remotely. HP has made the recommended fixes, according to Samba 3.0.

HP CIFS Server Release Note Features and Fixes in Recent Releases NOTE The HP CIFS Server only supports pre-Windows 2000 computer membership in Windows 200x domains. • New Configuration Parameter For SSL Support The HP CIFS Server provides a new global parameter, ldap ssl, available for you to configure the HP CIFS Server to enable the SSL connection to the LDAP directory. This parameter is defined in the /etc/opt/samba/smb.

If you specify the -S option for LDAP management tools, the LDAP configuration values in the /etc/opt/samba/smb.conf file are used. Without specifying the -S option, the LDAP management tools use the LDAP configuration values specified in the /opt/samba/LDAP/smbldap-tools/smbldap_conf.pm file.

HP CIFS Server Release Note Known Problems and Workarounds Known Problems and Workarounds For HP CIFS Server The following is a list of known problems and the appropriate workarounds for HP CIFS Server A.01.11.05: Problem Share mode security does not work with POSIX ACLs. Workaround Microsoft servers do not support share mode security and Windows NT ACLs. No workaround currently exists. Problem CIFS clients cannot delete open files.

By default, this option is enabled. • Locate the entry, Domain member: Disable machine account password changes, and disable it. HP CIFS Server Release Note Known Problems and Workarounds Workaround Edit the smb.conf file manually to remove the wins server entry. Problem A non-root user running smbstatus may receive the following errors when there are established connections to Samba: “/var/opt/samba/locks/connections.tdb not initialized. This is normal if an SMB client has never connected to your server.” Workaround The current version of smbstatus requires the write access permission for /var/opt/samba/locks/connections.
HP CIFS Server Release Note Known Problems and Workarounds Problem Changing the password stored in the smbpasswd file from a Windows XP machine without the sign and seal patch will fail and corrupt the password for the user. The password must then be reset by the administrator if this occurs.

The following pieces compose the HP CIFS Server: • CIFS Server source code files/HP-UX 11.00 —14 MB • CIFS Server File and Print Services/HP-UX 11.00 —29 MB HP-UX Memory and Disk Requirements 32-bit and 64-bit HP-UX 11.
HP CIFS Server Release Note Software Availability in Native Languages Software Availability in Native Languages The HP CIFS Server currently supports German (ISO 8859-1) and Japanese Shift-JIS locales for the following: • file names and content • directory names and content • print jobs Administrative utilities such as smbstatus and SWAT are not internationalized. Internationalization is focused on the user level, not the administrative level.
