Distributed File System (DFS) Server Functionality
(version A.01.08)
These enhancements are new for version A.01.08. The HP CIFS Server
now provides the following DFS functionality:
A HP CIFS Server can act as a Distributed File System (DFS) server
The Distributed File System (DFS) provides a way to separate the
logical view of files and directories that users see from the actual
physical locations of these network resources
The DFS tree allows users to easily access any particular resource on
the network server
The HP CIFS DFS tree is accessible from the following types of
DFS-aware clients:
Windows NT
Windows XP
Windows 2000
A DFS root directory can host DFS links in the form of symbolic links
which point to other servers
For detailed information about setting up DFS support, please refer to
Chapter 2 in this document.
Primary Domain Controller (PDC) Functionality
(version A.01.08)
These enhancements are new for version A.01.08. Please refer to
Chapters 4 and 5 in this document for detailed information about setting
up and configuring a PDC. The HP CIFS Server now provides the
following PDC functionality:
Continue the support for joining a Samba server to the Windows NT
domain as a member server
Provide the ability to act as a Primary Domain Controller (PDC) for
Windows clients which include Windows NT, XP and 2000
Support the Domain logon feature for Windows NT 4.0 SP3+,
Windows XP and Windows 2000 clients
Support for Windows NT group and username mapping
