HP CIFS Client A.02.02.01 Release Notes
Features and Fixes in Previous Release
The following enhancements and changes are included in the previous A.02.02 release:
Support for Microsoft Distributed FileSystem (MS DFS)
This release of HP CIFS Client supports Microsoft Distributed File System (MS DFS). DFS for the Microsoft
Windows Server operating systems is a network server component that enables administrators to build a
single, hierarchical view of multiple file servers and file server shares on their network. DFS is a means for
uniting files on different computers into a single name space.
For detailed information, refer to "Microsoft Distributed File System Support" section in the
HP CIFS Client
Administrator's Guide
.
NOTE: HP CIFS Client MS DFS support has the following limitations:
Moving files across DFS links is not supported.•
• Before the CIFS Client connects to a DFS Root on an HP CIFS Server (Samba), CIFS UNIX Extensions
must be disabled on either the CIFS Client or Server.
The problem for moving files across DFS links has been fixed in HP CIFS Client A.02.02.01.
Support for Dynamically Loadable Kernel Module (DLKM)
The HP CIFS Client now utilizes the Dynamically Loadable Kernel Modules infrastructure in HP-UX which is
an operating system feature that allows the DLKM-Enabled CIFS Client kernel module to be dynamically
loaded into, or unloaded from, the HP-UX kernel without having to re-link the entire kernel or reboot the
system.
For detailed information, refer to “Dynamically Loadable Kernel Module” section in the
HP CIFS Client
Administrator's Guide
.
NOTE: HP CIFS Client DLKM support is available only on HP-UX 11i v2 or later.
New Manual Pages
This release provides man pages for the HP CIFS Client. They are:
• cifsclient(1M): Control script for the CIFS Client.
• cifsdb(1M): Manage CIFS Client database entries.
• cifslist(1): Display CIFS Client mounts and users.
• cifslogin, cifslogout(1): Initiate, terminate sessions on CIFS servers.
• cifsmount, cifsumount(1M): Mount and unmount CIFS filesystmes.
• mount_cifs, umount_cifs(1M): Mount and unmount CIFS filesystems.
Refer to man pages for details.
NOTE: Man pages are available only in English.
Support for specifying server IP address with cifsmount and mount
New command-line options have been implemented that allow the IP address of the CIFS server to be specified
on the command-line with cifsmount and mount —F cifs. This option causes the CIFS Client to bypass
all name-resolution procedures for the mount request, superseding any corresponding entry configured in
cifsclient.cfg. Refer to the manual pages mount_cifs(1M) and cifsmount(1M) for further
information.
Removal of —f option from cifsmount
The —f option to cifsmount (perform "fake-mode" mount) has been removed. To perform a fake-mode
with cifsmount, simply invoke the command with no login options, that is, do not use -U or -P.
