HP CIFS Client A.02.02 Release Notes, April 2006
Features and Fixes in Previous Release
The following enhancements and fixes are included in the previous A.02.01 release:
Enhanced Security Features
• NTLMv2 Password Encryption
This release of HP CIFS Client supports NTLM version 2 (NTLMv2) in addition to NTLM and Kerberos.
NTLMv2 uses the same challenge-response protocol as NTLM, but provides more sophisticated encryption
algorithms, hence better password protection. Refer to the configuration parameters
ntlmEncryptionVersion and authenticationMethod in the
HP CIFS Client Administrator's
Guide
for details.
• Packet Signing
This release supports packet signing. The purpose of CIFS packet signatures is prevention of man-in-the
middle attacks: the client and server are mutually assured of the other's identity by requiring a unique
signature on each SMB packet.
Refer to
HP CIFS Client Administrator's Guide
for a detailed description of the smbPacketSigning
parameter.
Enhanced Name Resolution
NetBIOS Name Services, WINS and DNS Support
HP CIFS Client A.02.01 supports DNS and the NetBIOS Name Services, including NetBIOS broadcast, and
WINS, a Windows name resolution service similar to DNS. The configuration parameters
lookupTryNetbios, lookupTryDns and nbnsWinsIP are used to configure which lookup mechanisms
are used. For detailed information, refer to "NetBIOS Name Services, WINS, DNS, IP Configuration" section
in
HP CIFS Client Administrator's Guide
.
New cifsdb Command
This command is used to manage CIFS Client user and mount database entries. It provides more flexibility
than previous methods, in that it allows database entries to be removed even if inactive. Refer to Chapter
5, "Commandline Utilities" in
HP CIFS Client Administrator's Guide
for the detailed information on the
cifsdb, cifsmount, and cifslogin commands.
Other Changes
• Command Option Changes
Command options have been changed nominally between HP CIFS Client A.01.* and A.02.*.
Refer to the "Command Option Differences Between HP CIFS Client A.01.* and A.02.* " section in
HP CIFS Client Administrator's Guide
for details.
• Configuration Parameter Changes
New configuration parameters have been introduced in HP CIFS Client A.02.01. Also, some parameters
used in versions A.01.* have been renamed or obsoleted in version A.02.01. Refer to "Configuration
Parameter Differences" section in
HP CIFS Client Administrator's Guide
for details.
Fixed in This Release
GID issue with CIFS UNIX Extension
An issue has been resolved in the use of CIFS UNIX Extensions wherein, when a new file was created on
the remote server, it was given the group id (gid) of the user's account on the CIFS Client host, rather than
the gid of the user's login account on the server.
