HP CIFS Client Overview CIFS is the native networking protocol on Microsoft Windows operating systems. The HP CIFS products for HP-UX provide a wide range of integration strategies for HP-UX and Windows.
New and Changed Features in Version A.02.02 This release contains the following enhancements and changes. For detailed information about defect fixes, see “Know Problems Fixed in Version A.02.02” section in this document. Support for Microsoft Distributed FileSystem (MS DFS) This release of HP CIFS Client supports Microsoft Distributed File System (MS DFS).
Improved encryption of user passwords This release includes a more robust encryption method for user passwords in memory. New Configuration Parameters The following parameters are new in HP CIFS Client A.02.02. Refer to Chapter 7, “Configuration File” in the HP CIFS Client Administrator's Guide for detailed information. • mnttabPrefix If set to yes, the identifier [cifs] is prefixed to listings of mounted CIFS file systems in /etc/mnttab and the output of mount(1M), and bdf(1M): [cifs]server:/share.
Problems Fixed in Version A.02.02 HP CIFS Client A.02.02 provides the following fixes: • Root-priviledge check with cifsmount and cifsumount The root-priviledge check has been implemented in this release, only users with root capabilities can invoke the cifsmount and cisfumount commands.

Features and Fixes in Previous Release The following enhancements and fixes are included in the previous A.02.01 release: Enhanced Security Features • NTLMv2 Password Encryption This release of HP CIFS Client supports NTLM version 2 (NTLMv2) in addition to NTLM and Kerberos. NTLMv2 uses the same challenge-response protocol as NTLM, but provides more sophisticated encryption algorithms, hence better password protection.
Known Problems and Workarounds This section provides a list of known problems and workrounds as known to HP at time of publication. For the HP CIFS Client • Byte range lock is not supported Byte range locks over a cifs mount are not supported. Calls to lockf(1) and fcntl(1) over a cifsmount will fail. Support for byte range locks will be added in a future release of the HP CIFS Client.

Software Availability in Native Languages The CIFS Client is designed to work with a multitude of native languages: most character-sets used in modern languages in Europe, the middle East, the Americas and Asia are supported. The character-set displayed on the CIFS Client console is configured with the parameter clientCharMapFile, which selects any one of the many character mapping files provided with the product.
