HP Caliper User's Guide
Unknown Functions
When HP Caliper cannot find the name of a function (because, for example, strip(1)
was used to remove symbolic information), the report lists the name of the function
as:
unknown_0xattr
where attr is the starting address of the function.
The report lists a function as unknown when HP Caliper is, for any reason, unable to
resolve a function name in a shared library through import stubs.
VSE Information Shown in Report Output
Information related to components of the HP Virtual Server Environment (VSE) that
can impact performance is shown in the report output. These components are:
• HP Integrity Virtual Machines
An application's performance can be impacted if it is run on a virtual machine
(that is, run within a guest operating system) in the VM environment. For each
measurement run, HP Caliper detects and reports whether the application was
run on a virtual machine or not.
This information is reported under Processor Information.
• Processor set (pset)
Every application can (potentially) be run in a different processor set, which can
have unique characteristics that impact performance. For each process, HP Caliper
detects and reports which processor set was used. Possibilities are:
— Default: No processor set was specified.
— Kernel: A special processor set that a few kernel processes belong to. (This
appears only in system-wide measurements.)
— <pset ID>: Processor set ID number if one was specified.
This information is reported under Target Application.
The VSE components nPartitions (nPars) and Virtual Partitions (vPars) have no
performance impact on applications, because applications in these environments run
as they would on standalone servers. Therefore, HP Caliper does not report on these
environments.
HyperThreading Information for Dual-Core Itanium 2 and Itanium 9300
Quad-Core Processors Shown in Report Output
Information about the HyperThreading status of the processor is shown for each process
in the report output. This is shown for Integruty servers dual-core Itanium 2 and Itanium
9300 quad-core processors only.
