Using APA to Build a Screaming Fast Network Server Connection for HP-UX 11i v2 and v3
-- Page 8 -- Hewlett Packard
Hardware Considerations
The APA software is the affordable solution for Highly Available Gigabit Ethernet
bandwidth and is designed to be fully compatible with existing fast or Gigabit Ethernet
networks. When deploying APA, the following rules apply:
Rules Description
Link Aggregate Type Full Duplex Only. Half duplex is not supported.
Fast Ethernet Trunk Sizes 200Mb to 800Mb (Manual); 200Mb to 6.4 Gb (LACP)
Gigabit Ethernet Trunk Sizes 2Gb to 64 Gb (Theoretical)
Maximum Number of Links per
Link Aggregate
Up to 32 Links per Link Aggregate
Maximum Number of Link
Aggregates per Server
Up to 50 Link Aggregates per server
NIC Type All Fast Ethernet -- OR -- All Gigabit Ethernet. Fast and Gigabit
Ethernet NIC combinations are NOT supported.
FDDI and Token Ring are supported, but only in Fail-Over
mode (i.e. no load balancing). This means only a single link is
active and the remaining links are standby links.
Cable Type UTP or Fiber
Operating System HP-UX 10.20 (Fail-Over only; no load balancing), or 11.0
The following Customer Configurations demonstrate the benefits that APA can provide
in different network environments. In each of these examples, each Link Aggregate
contains a single IP and MAC address.
