HP Auto Port Aggregation Administrator's Guide for HP-UX 11i v3 September 2008

Interoperability with HP Serviceguard
To use HP Serviceguard with HP APA, you must use HP Serviceguard version A.11.17.01 or
later. HP Serviceguard can use Manual, FEC, and LACP link aggregates, and failover
groups(LAN_MONITOR mode). The maximum number of links for each link aggregate is 8 for
FEC_AUTO and 32 for LACP_AUTO. For installation guidelines, see “Configuring HP
Serviceguard” (page 39).
Administrative Methods
The following sections provide a brief overview of the methods for administering HP APA. HP
recommends that you use the System Management Homepage (SMH) whenever possible.
HP System Management Homepage
The HP System Management Homepage (HP SMH) enables you to administer your HP-UX
system locally via a web-based graphical user interface (GUI) and terminal user interface (TUI).
It provides a single, hierarchical menu interface that allows you to quickly find and invoke
applications to perform the most common system tasks.
In this manual, wherever HP SMH is mentioned in relation to HP APA configuration and
administrative tasks, it is presumed that you know how to invoke it. To invoke the HP SMH, do
the following:
1. From a character-cell terminal or terminal window, enter:
# smh
If the DISPLAY environment variable is set, HP SMH opens in the default web browser. If
the environment variable is not set, HP SMH opens in the TUI. Figure 1-1 shows the SMH
Main page.
