HP-UX AAA Server A.07.01 Administrator's Guide
27 Troubleshooting Overview
This chapter of the HP-UX AAA Server Administrator's Guide provides an overview
of HP-UX AAA Server troubleshooting with respect to the AAA environment.
This section discusses the following:
• “AAA Environment Components” (page 327)
• “HP-UX AAA Server Operation” (page 328)
• “Probable Causes for Failure” (page 330)
AAA Environment Components
The AAA environment consists of the following interoperating components:
• HP-UX AAA Server Daemon, Libraries, Configuration Files, and Utilities: Perform
the authentication, authorization, and accounting functions to process requests.
• Web Based Server Manager Administration Utility: Configures and manages the
servers. The Server Manager can retrieve logfile messages and statistics from
HP-UX AAA Servers.
• Supplicants: Application software that request access to network services via
RADIUS clients.
• RADIUS Clients: Communicate with the HP-UX AAA Server using the RADIUS
protocol standard. They serve as enforcement points to control access to network
services.
• External Services: Interoperate with the HP-UX AAA Server to provide user profile
storage (databases) and other services such as DHCP (IP address management)
and SNMP (network management).
Figure 27-1 depicts the AAA environment and components. Troubleshooting the AAA
environment involves determining the component that caused the problem and taking
the necessary corrective actions.
