Introduction
The VERITAS Volume Manager

Troubleshooting Guide provides information about how to
recover from hardware failure, and how to understand and deal with VERITAS Volume
Manager (VxVM) error messages during normal operation.
For detailed information about VERITAS Volume Manager and how to use it, refer to the
VERITAS Volume Manager Administrator’s Guide. Details on how to use the VERITAS
Enterprise Administrator

graphical user interface can be found in the VERITAS Volume
Manager (UNIX) User’s Guide. For a description of VERITAS Volume Replicator

error
messages, see the VERITAS Volume Replicator Administrator’s Guide.
Audience and Scope
This guide is intended for system administrators responsible for installing, configuring,
and maintaining systems under the control of VERITAS Volume Manager.
This guide assumes that the user has a:
◆ working knowledge of the UNIX operating system
◆ basic understanding of UNIX system administration
◆ basic understanding of volume management
The purpose of this guide is to help the system administrator recover from the failure of
disks and other hardware upon which virtual software objects such as subdisks, plexes
and volumes are constructed in VERITAS Volume Manager. Guidelines are also included
on how to understand and react to the variousVxVM error messages that you may see.
