The VERITAS File System 3.5 (HP OnlineJFS/JFS 3.5) product is an extent-based, intent-logging file system. This product is particularly geared toward UNIX environments that require high performance and availability, and that deal with large volumes of data.

VERITAS File System 3.5 (HP OnlineJFS/JFS 3.5) Release Notes New and Changed Features • API for Obtaining VxFS Inode Field Offsets For open source utilities, such as LSOF, to support VxFS 3.5 file systems, the library vxfsutil was introduced. The library provides an API for accessing base/full VxFS 3.5 header file information because the header files are no longer public. See the vxfsu_get_ioffsets (3) manual page for details.

The swinstall command installs base/full VxFS manual pages in the /usr/share/man/fs/vxfs3.5 directory, and symbolic links to the VxFS manual pages in the /opt/VRTS/man directory. The /usr/share/man/fs/vxfs3.5 directory is automatically added to /etc/MANPATH when base/full VxFS 3.

Add this directory to the end of your PATH environment variable to access the commands. NOTE The base/full VxFS 3.5 vxtunefs command is installed in the /sbin/fs/vxfs3.5/bin directory. This directory is automatically added to /etc/PATH when base/full VxFS 3.5 is installed.

VERITAS File System 3.5 (HP OnlineJFS/JFS 3.5) Release Notes Compatibility Information and Installation Requirements Required Patches The VERITAS File System 3.5 (HP OnlineJFS/JFS 3.5) release operates only on HP-UX 11i 64-bit operating systems with the September 2002 HP-UX 11i (or later) release installed. To avoid system hangs, please install patch PHKL_27825 (Cumulative VM, Processor Sets, Preemption, PRM). See the Additional Patch Information section for more information about how to obtain patches.

Until that product is available, the functionality can be obtained by the following process: • Purchase and install the full VxFS 3.3 (HP OnlineJFS 3.3), HP Product Number B3929CA, the HP-UX Enterprise Operating Environment or the HP-UX Mission-Critical Operating Environment. VERITAS File System 3.5 (HP OnlineJFS/JFS 3.5) Release Notes Removing VERITAS File System 3.5 (HP OnlineJFS/JFS 3.5) Product Known Issues Problem A spurious message "VXFS is not licensed" is displayed on the console and in the swagent.log Workaround 1) The "vxenablef -e full" command must not be called in any installation scripts in the JFS product for HP-UX. 2) The output of the "vxenablef" command (without any options) does not match with the output of the "vxlicrep" command.
