VERITAS Volume Manager 3.2 for HP-UX provides state-of-the-art online disk management
for HP-UX. It consists of several related products:
Base VERITAS Volume Manager 3.2 for HP-UX (Base VXVM) [Base-VXVM]:
provides basic volume manager features, including a Java-based GUI, and is
included with all HP-UX 11i Operating Environments, as well as with the
HP-UX 11i Application Release for no additional fee. When
MC/ServiceGuard or ServiceGuard OPS Edition is installed on your system,
the Base VERITAS Volume Manager 3.2 for HP-UX also provides some
basic clustering features.
VERITAS Volume Manager 3.2 for HP-UX (VxVM) [B9116AA]:
provides a full set of enhanced volume manager capabilities, including
mirroring, and is available for an additional fee.
VERITAS Cluster Volume Manager 3.2 for HP-UX (CVM) [B9117AA]:
provides enhanced volume manager functionality for clustered
environments, is integrated with MC/ServiceGuard and ServiceGuard OPS
Edition, and is available for an additional fee. B9117AA requires B9116AA.
VERITAS Volume Manager 3.2 FastResync Option for HP-UX (FR) [B9118AA]:
reduces the time taken to resynchronize a split mirror to the volume, and is
available for an additional fee. B9118AA requires B9116AA.
The VERITAS Volume Manager for HP-UX is an alternative to the HP Logical Volume
Manager and HP MirrorDisk/UX products.
This document describes the December 2001 release of the VERITAS Volume Manager for
HP-UX products, Version B.03.20.1. Beginning in December, 2001, Base-VXVM is included
with all HP-UX 11i Operating Environments.
The December 2001 release, Version B.03.20.1, introduces the Device Discovery Layer (DDL),
and, with CVM, support of striped mirrors, online relayout, and Oracle resilvering, as well as
CVM infrastructure changes to support CFS. It also includes bug fixes and enhancements to
the performance of VxVM at boot time, as well as support for additional peripherals.
If you have installed an earlier version of VxVM, we strongly recommend you upgrade to
VERITAS Volume Manager for HP-UX Version B.03.20.1, available on the December 2001
HP-UX 11i Application Software. Version B.03.20.1 is more robust than earlier versions. See
