Entries for failed access can be logged multiple times. This is due to a security
requirement and is not an error.
Installing the Storage Administrator Client on HP-UX
If you plan to run the Storage Administrator client software from an HP-UX 11i machine
other than the machine to be administered, follow these steps to install the Storage
Administrator client software on the machine where the client will run.
Step 1. Mount the HP-UX 11i Application Release CD:
mount -F cdfs cdrom-device /cdrom
Step 2. Install the VERITAS Volume Manager Storage Administrator Client, fileset
HPvmsa.VMSA-CLIENT-SP, with the following command:
swinstall -s /cdrom HPvmsa.VMSA-CLIENT-SP
Starting the Storage Administrator Server
To use the VERITAS Volume Manager Storage Administrator, the Storage Administrator
server must be running on the HP-UX machine to be administered. Only one instance of the
Storage Administrator server can be running at a time.
The Storage Administrator server can be run either in normal mode or in auto-start mode. In
normal mode, once started, the Storage Administrator server must run continuously and
must not be stopped.
In auto-start mode, the Storage Administrator server starts whenever a VMSA client tries to
connect to the server, if the server is not already running. If no VMSA clients are connected
for a certain amount of time (15 minutes, by default), the server automatically terminates and
restarts at the next client connection.
To run the Storage Administrator server in normal mode, follow the steps below in “Starting
the Storage Administrator Server Manually in Normal Mode”. To run the Storage
Administrator in auto-start mode, follow the steps in “Starting the Storage Administrator
Server in Auto-Start Mode”.
NOTE After vxinstall is run, the Storage Administrator server starts up
automatically at system startup. You only need to start it manually as
