Overview of Installing and Setting Up the VERITAS Volume Manager for HP-UX on HP-UX 11i

NOTE We recommend you upgrade to VERITAS Volume Manager for HP-UX Version

B.03.20.1, available on the September 2001 HP-UX 11i Application Software, if

you installed an earlier version of VxVM. Version B.03.20.1 is more robust than

earlier versions. If you installed Version B.03.10.05 from the December 2000

HP-UX 11i Application Software, we especially encourage you to upgrade to

Version B.03.20.1. The version of vmsa in Version B.03.10.05 could cause

compatibility problems.

Upgrading to the Latest VxVM Version

We recommend that you upgrade to Version B.03.20.1 of any and all of the VxVM products

you have previously installed. Version B.03.20.1 is more robust than earlier versions of the

software. In particular, the original version of vmsa (1M), the Storage Administrator

graphical user interface from Version B.03.10.05 could cause compatibility problems.

Upgrading to the latest VxVM software is automated, requiring no manual steps other than

running swinstall (1M). However, upgrading Base-VXVM or B9116AA will cause your system

to reboot. To upgrade to the latest VxVM software, mount the latest HP-UX 11i Application

Release CD and run swinstall with the following options:

swinstall -x reinstall=true -x autoreboot=true -s /cdrom product-number

where product-number is either Base-VXVM or B9116AA.

Do not run vxinstall (1M) after upgrading.

License keys from older versions of B9116AA and B9118AA will continue to work when you

upgrade to VxVM Version B.03.20.1.

Although it is not recommended, it is possible to install additional VxVM software licenses

without upgrading Base-VXVM or B9116AA to Version B.03.20.1. For example, if you have

B9116AA Version B.03.10.06 installed, you can install VERITAS Volume Manager 3.2

FastResync Option for HP-UX, B9118AA, Version B.03.20.1.
