Installation and Setup
The Volume Manager Storage Administrator consists of a server
(vmsa_server) and a client (vmsa). You must install and run the Storage
Administrator server on a UNIX machine running the Volume Manager.
You can install and run the Storage Administrator client on any machine
that supports the Java Runtime Environment.
NOTE Windows systems are not supported as Storage Administrator clients.
On HP-UX 11i Version 1.5, clients must also run on an HP-UX 11i
Version 1.5 system.
Before you can use the Storage Administrator, you need to do the
following:
Step 1. Install the VERITAS Volume Manager and the Storage Administrator on
the machine to be administered. Refer to the VERITAS Volume Manager
3.1 for HP-UX Release Notes for installation procedures on HP-UX 11i
systems.
NOTE You do not need to install the VxVM software on the HP-UX 11i Version
1.5 Operating System; it is included with the operating system.
Step 2. Run vxinstall to create the rootdg disk group and initialize at least
one disk. Refer to the VERITAS Volume Manager 3.1 for HP-UX Release
Notes for vxinstall initialization procedures on HP-UX 11i systems.
NOTE You do not need to run vxinstall on the HP-UX 11i Version 1.5
Operating System; this initialization is done automatically when the
operating system is installed.
Step 3. If users other than root need to access the Storage Administrator, set up
security to specify which users can run the Storage Administrator. Refer
to “Customizing Security (Optional)” for the procedure.
