Upgrading a Disk Group
Chapter 5222
Upgrading a Disk Group
Prior to the release of Volume Manager 3.0, the disk group version was
automatically upgraded (if needed) when the disk group was imported.
Upgrading the disk group makes it incompatible with previous Volume
Manager releases.
The Volume Manager 3.0 disk group upgrade feature separates the two
operations of importing a disk group and upgrading its version. You can
import a disk group of down-level version and use it without upgrading
it.
When you want to use new features, the disk group can be upgraded. The
disk group upgrade is an explicit operation (as opposed to earlier VxVM
versions, where the disk group upgrade was performed when the disk
group was imported). Once the upgrade occurs, the disk group becomes
incompatible with earlier releases of VxVM that do not support the new
disk group version.
NOTE This information is not applicable for platforms whose first release is
Volume Manager 3.0. However, it will be applicable with subsequent
releases
