What is VERITAS File System 3.5 (HP OnlineJFS/JFS

3.5)?

The VERITAS File System 3.5 (HP Onlin eJFS/JFS 3.5) product is an extent-based,

intent-logging ﬁle system. This product is particularly designed for UNIX environments,

which require high performance and availability to deal with large volumes of data. The

VERITAS File System 3.5 (HP OnlineJFS/JFS 3.5) is the next generation of HP

OnlineJFS/JFS 3.3.

The base VERITAS File System 3.5 (HP JFS 3.5) is the new version of the base journaled

ﬁle system for HP-UX 11i and is available for free as part of the December 2002 release

of Software Pack.

The full VERITAS File System 3.5 (HP OnlineJFS 3.5), enables advanced ﬁle system

features. To make use of these advanced ﬁle system features, you should order the full

VxFS 3.5 as a separate product. HP OnlineJFS 3.5 is available as B3929DA on HP-UX

11i version 1 December 2003 Operating Environment Application Release.

NOTE The base VERITAS File System 3.5, HP JFS 3.5, and base VxFS are used

interchangeably throughout the release notes.

In addition, the terms, full VERITAS File System 3.5, HP OnlineJFS 3.5, and full VxFS

are used interchangeably throughout the release notes.

All of these terms may appear in other related VERITAS File System (HP

OnlineJFS/JFS 3.5) documentation that accompanies this product.

Intended Audience Most customers using HP-UX 11i should continue using HP OnlineJFS/JFS 3.3. The

VERITAS File System 3.5 (HP OnlineJFS/JFS 3.5) product is not meant to be a

replacement or upgrade path for HP OnlineJFS/JFS 3.3.

You should not upgrade to VERITAS File System 3.5 (HP OnlineJFS/JFS 3.5) unless you

need to take advantage of the following products:

• VERITAS Foundation Suite 3.5

• VERITAS Foundation Suite/HA 3.5

• VERITAS Oracle Data Base Edition 3.5

• VERITAS Oracle DBE/HA 3.5

• VERITAS SanPoint Foundation Suite 3.5 (includes CVM and CFS 3.5)

• VERITAS SPFS/HA 3.5

However, if you choose to obtain this new version of VERITAS File System 3.5 (HP

OnlineJFS/JFS 3.5) from HP be aware that it is a standalone product. The full version of

VxFS 3.5 is a companion product and is included in the above VERITAS 3.5 products.
